Five benefits of studying Maths

The benefits of studying Maths go far beyond examinations and qualifications.

Here are five great skills students can develop through Maths:

  1. Problem-solving skills

Problem-solving skills are one of the most sought-after skills in the workplace according to the World Economic Forum (The Future of Jobs Report 2020). Problem-solving skills help people find solutions at work. Maths is all about problem-solving and these skills can be encouraged and cultivated from a young age.

  2. Analytical thinking

Looking for patterns, analysing data, and breaking down problems are commonplace in Maths and help students develop analytical thinking.

  3. Perseverance

So often in Maths, you have to wrestle with a question or spend time understanding a concept or simply try to figure out where you have gone wrong! This all takes patience and persistence and is very rewarding.

  4. Creativity

Maths is an incredibly creative subject. There are many ways of solving a problem or thinking about an idea or concept. Harnessing creativity in Maths also makes the subject more enjoyable and can deepen understanding.

  5. Work ethic

Hard work pays off in Maths - the more you put in, the more you get out. What a great message for students!

My students, from age 7 to 17, enjoy tackling interesting and challenging Maths questions and in the process develop vital skills as well as bags of perseverance. It’s a win-win!
